This eye catching giant Bad Dog sculpture is hard to miss. How often would you see a giant dog peeing on the side of a building. It makes you wonder and smile at the same time.
This Giant Dog Sculpture, Bad Dog,is about 28ft tall and 33ft long. It was created by a California artist, Richard Jackson, for Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) in Newport Beach. It was installed early 2013 as part of Jackson’s exhibition “Ain’t Painting a Pain.” Bad Dog was assembled on site. There were 52 digitally cut-out pieces crafted from fiber glass and composite materials. It was suppose to be torn down after the exhibit. I guess the commotion Bad Dog brought to the museum has made them keep it longer.
Can you guess what kind go dog is Bad Dog? Bad Dog is a labrador retriever.
Can you see the fake pee yellow stain on the wall?
Bad Dog definitely “marked the territory of the art world.”
Bad Dog is an art that makes a “statement.”
What statement do you think Richard Jackson is conveying?
This post marks the beginning of our 2015 Sugar’s Golden Tours. We will share dog-friendly places in Orange County (Southern California). From time to time, we will share dog-friendly places in San Diego and Los Angeles.
We don’t know what the artist is saying, but it is impressive! Love the yellow stain….

That is way cool.
I love the sculpture, but can you imagine what the artist must have said when he proposed the idea to the art museum.
This piece really speaks to me. I think I get “art” now (I thought the humans were just trying to say “arf”). *wags* – Gilligan from WagsAhoy.com

Sugar, you didn’t get peed on, right???
I love that! How fun! I think they should leave it up!
Not sure what the statement is! Maybe that we shouldn’t take art too seriously – we should just enjoy it. (Or… well, I hope it’s not that he’s peeing on his fellow artists!)
Smug ar you look so tiny under that big bad dog!!! Hope you had fun! Can’t wait to see the other places you will visit!! Take care pretty girl!!
That is some VERY yellow pee!
You will make such a lovely tour guide, Sugar! Looking forward to hearing about your other adventures.
I just love this installment!! Maybe the artist wants to convey the message of not taking art so seriously, and of having fun with it?
Wow! That is a big statue!
