Bad Dog: Giant Dog Sculpture Peeing on OC Museum of Art

January 21, 2015

This eye catching giant Bad Dog sculpture is hard to miss. How often would you see a giant dog peeing on the side of a building. It makes you wonder and smile at the same time.

Giant Dog Peeing

This Giant Dog Sculpture, Bad Dog,is about 28ft tall and 33ft long. It was created by a California artist, Richard Jackson, for Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) in Newport Beach. It was installed early 2013 as part of Jackson’s exhibition “Ain’t Painting a Pain.” Bad Dog was assembled on site. There were 52 digitally cut-out pieces crafted from fiber glass and composite materials. It was suppose to be torn down after the exhibit. I guess the commotion Bad Dog brought to the museum has made them keep it longer.

Can you guess what kind go dog is Bad Dog? Bad Dog is a labrador retriever.
Can you see the fake pee yellow stain on the wall?
Bad Dog definitely “marked the territory of the art world.”

Bad Dog: Marked Territory Art World

Bad Dog is an art that makes a “statement.”
What statement do you think Richard Jackson is conveying?

This piece really speaks to me. I think I get “art” now (I thought the humans were just trying to say “arf”). *wags* – Gilligan from WagsAhoy.com
