Valentine’s day is known as the sweetest day. It’s a day to shower your loved ones with sweet gifts to make them feel special. In the United States, Valentine’s Day is a billion-dollar industry. Here are some Valentine’s Day fun facts and pet safety tips.
Valentine’s Day Fun Facts {Cards, Flowers, and Chocolates}
1. Did you know, ~150 million cards are exchanged each Valentine’s Day? (good to know the number is growing and many still send greeting cards) Valentine’s Day is the second most popular greeting card–giving occasion, after Christmas.
2. Valentine’s Day is the number one holiday for florists. Red roses are the most popular flower. Red means love, romance, passion, and beauty.
3. No Valentine’s Day is complete without candies and chocolates. In 1863, Richard Cadbury created the world’s first heart-shaped candy box for Valentine’s Day in the year 1861. From my research, caramel-flavored chocolates are the favorite in a Valentine’s Day chocolate box. Sixty-nine percent of Americans prefer chocolate to flowers on Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day ranks as the fourth-largest candy-selling holiday.
Valentine’s Day Pet Safety Tips
Keep Valentine’s Day ‘goodies’ out of reach of your pets.
1. Valentine ribbons, bows, wrapping paper, balloons can cause a choking hazard if swallowed. These items can lodge in your pet’s throat or block their digestive tract.
2. Roses are nontoxic to dogs and cats. However, eating rose blossoms or leaves could cause your pet a stomach upset. Keep vases of roses out of reach of your pets.
3. All types of chocolate are poisonous to pets. Chocolate poisoning can result in potentially life-threatening pet illness.
