Yesterday was cloudy and cold with snow flurries. I did not do much and stayed by the bay window most of the day … sleeping. It was heart rendering reading Spencer’s blog yesterday morning. I’m just getting to know Spencer and it is sad to hear that he is very ill. Please visit his blog – send your kind thoughts and prayers to Spencer and his family.
This inspires me to write this post,” Caring For Your Ill Pet.” Usually, my family knows and senses there is something wrong when (1) I don’t have an appetite. It is not like me to avoid food and treats, (2) I don’t have the strength to play which I love to do and (3) I do vomit and have a nasty diarrhea. As a dog, I cannot explain my symptoms. Thus, I depend on family’s observation and loving tender care. It is also my family’s responsibility to check with the veterinarian.
I would like TO inform ALL PET OWNERS that most pet are very good at hiding their illness or pain, so it is up to you to observe your pet for any abnormalities and be vigilant. 8 monthly “spot” checks that you should do are :1) Body Condition, 2) Ears, 3)Eyes, 4)Breath, 5)Skin&Coat, 6)Nails, 7)Digestion&Thirst, and 8)Attitude. It is a terrifying experience when your pet , best friend, gets ill. Your ill pet depends on you and you have to devote a lot of time to nourish, help alleviate any pains and make it feel better. The best remedy of all is continued hugs and kisses.
