Last weekend, we had a Westin Weekend at dog-friendly downtown Denver, CO.
This trip was Sugar’s 2nd visit to Colorado and 1st to downtown Denver. The weather was in the 70’s and pawfect weather to walk around downtown Denver.
What makes Denver unique?
Denver gets 300 days of sunshine every year! Denver has the nation’s largest city park system with more than 200 parks within city limits.
We did not have a hard time finding grassy areas. Lots of dog owners were also out with their four-legged friends. We were surprised to see many new developments in downtown Denver. Many housing developments are being built.
There were many art displays too; one of them was a bit unusual.
One of the highlights of our walk was seeing the Historic Sugar Building.
Some Facts about the Sugar Building
– 64,000 square feet
– Over 4,000 square foot rooftop penthouse addition
– Built in 1906 for the Great Western Sugar Company
– In 1978, it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places
– Designed by Gove and Walsh, who designed Denver’s Union Station
– An original Otis “cage elevator” was restored to accommodate passenger use
We partially walked the 16th Street Mall, ~ 1.25 miles. It is home to over 300 locally owned/chain stores, over 50 restaurants and the Denver Pavilions. Unfortunately, not all stores accept dogs. We had an emergency Verizon phone issues and the store was super dog-friendly. Sugar enjoyed lots of petting from the workers and shoppers.
Dining in Denver is dog-friendly especially if the restaurant has an outside patio. However, your dog needs to be on the other side of the fence, which we totally disagree. The Delectable Egg restaurant has an open patio, and it was pawfect. We had a delish breakfast, and many complimented and petted Sugar. Thirsty Lion was another pawsome restaurant. It has a great happy hour, and their patio set-up permits for the dog to be under the table.
According to our pedometer we walked ~ 5 miles. Sugar was pooped and had a relaxing Golden Sleep at Westin’s Heavenly dog bed. Golden Thanks to Westin Denver Downtown for pawsome accommodations.
We love Colorado and looking forward to visit again.
