Early detection is the key to chase away k9 cancer.

Take 10 minutes of your time to check your dog from nose to tail.

👃🏽 Nose – is it symmetrical? Is there any drainage? Are there any lesions? ⁣⁣
👀 Eyes – Any abnormal drainage? Increased redness? Change in shape? ⁣⁣
👄 Mouth – Are there any lesions or masses? Is the roof of the mouth uneven? How are the gums and teeth? ⁣⁣
💁‍♀️Jawline – Is it symmetrical? Is the texture consistent? Is your dog more sensitive there?⁣⁣
👂🏾 Ears – Is there any swelling? Foul smell? ⁣⁣
👣 Feet – Check the nails and the nail bed. Is there any excessive heat in the pad? ⁣⁣
😮 Hiney – Check for any masses or lumps. ⁣⁣
🐕 Don’t forget the legs & belly too!⁣ ⁣

It is unfortunate to know that Golden Retrievers have a high probability of cancer; about 60 percent – one of the highest in the dog world. We are thankful for Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study that started in 2012. This $32 million study gathers information on more than 3,000 golden retrievers throughout their lives to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs.

In honor of National Dog Day, for the 3rd year in a row, an anonymous Morris Animal Foundation donor who lost her beloved golden retriever, Cody, to cancer, is generously matching all donations made to support the study dollar for dollar, up to $50,000, from August 1 through August 26.
